My model 4390 Generac is showing a flashing overspeed light when trying to run its exercise. It will run in manual for about 10 seconds and then shut down for overspeed again. The engine seems to be running at normal RPM while it’s running, but it won’t stay running.

Why does my Generac generator run hotter than normal?
Even slight varnishing in the ventura or on the needle valve can cause your genset to run a skosh lean and run hotter than normal. Remove the air filter and blow a “good” amount of carb cleaner into the intake. Don’t worry if it stalls your gen.
