What is the problem with my gas tank?
Fuel pickup screen in the tank is clogged. The sending unit for the fuel gauge is bad and the tank is empty but the fuel gauge falsely shows it’s not. I would start by determining if it is an electrical or mechanical problem.

Why does my Taurus think the gas tank is full?
Perhaps the fuel is too warm, and once it touches your -40C metal tube it evaporates more fuel than necessary thus creates additional back pressure making the pump think the tank is full? Just a thought. It’s been a while since I’ve fueled in -47C weather. I had my Taurus a few hours north of Sudbury at a no-name station.
