Is the user interface of Spinnaker good or bad?
Spinnaker’s User Interface can be hit or miss. Some parts are not as user-friendly. For example, figuring out why ACA failed can take up to 5 mouse-clicks. We are working on improving some parts of this and are hoping to eventually contribute back to the open source community.
How is Spinnaker a success story for open source?
With Spinnaker’s open source flexibility, we completed the full migration in just 2.5 months. The community uptake has been tremendous. Having a platform that has an extensible model, and accommodates multiple cloud providers out of the box, means that we are one large community rather than a bunch of micro-communities focused on various forks.
How did spinnaker become an extensible delivery platform?
While Spinnaker itself is already fairly extensible as a result of it being built in Spring-boot, the team believes this will really turn Spinnaker into an extensible platform for Continuous Delivery.

Spinnaker provides Automated Canary Analysis out of the box. Which is another big lever for us. Rather than extending the tooling we have, we decided to invest in Spinnaker. We can leverage the community and contribute back, rather than building a closed-source in-house deployment tool.

Buying a spinnaker is an important investment, and it must be right. Even if you still have some summary spec sheet for your boat, it may only indicate an approximate spinnaker square footage, but not the specifics of the area, luff, leech or foot for the spinnaker you need.
Do you run sheets before connecting to spinnaker?
Spinnaker sheets and guys should be run before connecting to the spinnaker. Most sheets and guys go through a fairlead or turning block at the stern of the boat before running forward to the spinnaker.
How does a spinnaker work on a boat?
A spinnaker connects the boat with a halyard at the head of the sail to hoist it, a sheet on the leeward side, and a guy on the windward side. While the guy is a pole control, some boats use dedicated sheets and guys, while some use a single line that switches function between sheet and guy as the sail jibes from side to side.
