How does furnace flame sensor work?
A furnace flame sensor works by detecting the presence of a flame within the furnace. The sensor is a short length of thin metallic rod that creates a small current of electricity in order to confirm there is fire burning within the furnace.
How does a mercury flame sensor work?
The mercury flame sensor has a capillary tube filled with a fluid. When the sensor is heated by immersion in a pilot flame the fluid in the sensor expands exerting pressure from the sensor end to the pilot valve to force it open. Both types of flame sensors act as safety functions to prove existance of a pilot flame.
How do you test a flame sensor signal?
You can measure flame signal by putting your meter (capable of measuring micro amps) in line between the flame sensor and the wire that was connected to it (see picture). If you are reading anything under 5 uA (micro amps), it is likely that your flame sensor is dirty.
What is the difference between a thermocouple and a flame sensor?
Thermocouples are used on standing pilot furnaces that have pilot lights. The thermocouple sits near the pilot light and gauges whether it’s working properly, while the flame sensor detects that the burners are lit once they start to emit gas and the igniters light them up.
Is there a manual for igniting a suburban furnace?
THIS IS NEW BOARD THAT ACTED SAME AS OLD ONE. 6) I tested continuity from HV wire end to igniter tip and it was good with no breaks as wire was flexed around. 7) YES I have a manual but its troubleshooting isn’t much help other then needs a new board.
Why does my Suburban furnace refuse to ignite?
10 ) I figure the sail switch and any limit switches are okay OTHERWISE the gas valve would never open nor would the HV create a spark. Fan runs, gas valve opens, HV ignitor throws a spark (albeit looks weak), get smell of gas out exhaust BUT THE DARN THING REFUSES TO IGNITE. I’m thinking maybe an ignitor problem?????????
Can a propane furnace be used in a suburban?
Suburban forced draft combustion furnaces used in recreational vehicles are designed for use with Propane gas. Although a few recreational vehicle furnaces are approved for use with natural gas, one should never attempt to convert such a unit to natural gas unless the conversion is approved by the manufacturer of the furnace.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far prior to giving up and drinking but that time is getting close lol 1) Turn T stat on and raise temp, so it delays then fan runs, gas valve opens (smell gas outside) but it failed to light after a couple tries then locks out and gas valve closed.

How big is a suburban SF Q furnace?
Suburban’s SF-Q Series furnaces provide maximum heating performance in a ducted unit, with capacities from 20,000 to 40,000 BTU/h. Yet, at only 7 1/2 inches high, they can be easily installed in areas that might otherwise be left unused.
