Install a 69-71 timing chain set (double roller is also a good upgrade). 2. Carb change; throw that 650 in the scrap pile and install a properly tuned list# 3310 carb 3.

As you can surmise from all the answers on this thread, the Ford 460 of that vintage is a great engine except that in RV’s theey tend to suffer from the dreaded dual fuel pump problem. If one fails ( ususally in the fuel tank), the other will also fail.

Our 460 was fine when not pulling a trailer. But, since we do pull a trailer 99% of the time it did huff and puff on inclines. After having a Banks/Trans command system installed I have no problems. Made a huge difference. The engine clearly does not have to work as hard holding normal speeds.

Like any vehicle you will have problems, the mainfold problems with the 460 are very prevalent and recurring, (It’s not if it will happen, but WHEN). The factory could have taken care of these problems easily but choose to ignore they. To bad because IMHO the 460 is a great engine.
